Happy New Year 2016!

Happy New Year!

I just wanted to say “Thank You” for a great 2015 and I hope that everyone has an even more brilliant 2016!

I am very happy to report that 2015 was a very good year for the English 2.0 Podcast as we were able to reach some important goals! I use the word “we” because I couldn’t have done it without your help. First, we reached #1 in iTunes for our category in several countries! Also, the English 2.0 Podcast was discovered in many new countries this year.

In this blog post, I’m going to go over the specific number of downloads we achieved in 2015. Also, I’m going to share which countries were new to the podcast and in which countries we reached #1. Finally, I will list the Top 5 episodes from last year and outline my plans for the upcoming year: 2016!

Positive Outcome: Increase in Total Downloads

In last year’s review, I mentioned that the number of total downloads had doubled since the beginning when I started in 2011. Well, I’m happy to say that over 2015, the total number of downloads MORE THAN DOUBLED! To be exact, at the end of 2014 there were 188,000 downloads and at the end of the year 2015 we had over 474,000! That is an increase of 252%!

As of Nov 2014: 188,000
As of Dec 2015: 474,000

I’m proud to say that we were discovered in 4 out of the 7 (highlighted). However, it doesn’t stop there. To my surprise, the English 2.0 Podcast was introduced to 21 new countries in 2015! Here is the complete list:

Excellent Outcome: #1 in iTunes Rankings

At the beginning of 2015, I really wanted to reach #1 in iTunes for the category “Education-Language Courses-Video”. In iTunes, each country has its own rankings so I have gone through the Top 20 markets for total downloads. Although the order changed a little, most of the countries in last year’s Top 20 remained there. In 2014, I only checked the rankings at the end of the year however in 2015, I checked the rankings at various times. In the following table I’ve listed the ranking from December 2014 and compared it to the top ranking I was able to record over 2015. Here are the results:

In the Top 20 countries for the English 2.0 Podcast in terms of downloads, the rankings improved in all 20 countries over 2015! In fact, we achieved my biggest goal of 2015 which was to reach #1 in the iTunes rankings! Not only did we reach #1, we did it in 6 different countries:

Spain
*Vietnam
France
Yemen
Zimbabwe
Bahamas

Number one in Vietnam
#1 in Vietnam along with 5 other countries!

The largest increases were found in:

South Korea +94
United States +72
Canada +64
United Kingdom +46
Spain +43
France +41
Japan +40
Germany +40

My Thoughts

Overall, 2015 was an amazing year for the English 2.0 Podcast and I want to thank everyone who helped share the podcast and left comments in iTunes. I don’t know exactly how the rankings are calculated but as I said last year, I believe it heavily measures the number of subscribers. At the moment, there are about 1,500 subscribers. Let’s try to double that in 2016!

Plans for 2016

I wrote last year that I was aiming to increase the number of episodes in 2015. At the end of the year, there was actually one fewer (25->24). I have realized that to increase the number of episodes, it would take a lot more time and effort, which I don’t have at the moment.

I wanted to add more teacher interviews, movie study lessons, and news topics. Well, there were a few more teacher interviews, and we introduced movie study lessons. Two out of three is not bad.

Here are my plans for 2016 for the English 2.0 Podcast:

More Teacher Interviews: I’ve been lucky to make connections with some fantastic teachers from around the world. They all have unique messages to share and I want you to hear from them. One of the main part of the English 2.0 message is that you can learn from more than one teacher. This is a wonderful opportunity so don’t miss these episodes!

More Speaking Skills Episodes: I believe that these episodes are a key to helping students achieve their speaking goals. My personal goal is for Speaking Skills to eventually become a whole course on its own. These videos are some of the best I have on the podcast. I truly believe that.

More Premium Episodes: Now many of you probably haven’t heard of the Premium Podcast Episodes. These episodes are only available to students who are part of the English 2.0 Member’s Area. In the Premium Episodes we go deeper into key topics to help you advance to the highest levels of your potential. These lessons are more advanced so if you’re looking for these, please consider joining the English 2.0 Member’s Area.

As always, these are just ideas I have in mind to keep the show fresh and to allow me to update it more frequently. I noticed that when the podcast was being updated more frequently on a regular basis, faster growth started to occur. If there is something you’d like to see or hear more of on the podcast, please let me know. If there is something that you don’t like, please let me know in the “Comments” below. I’d love to hear any feedback you have about the show!

I Need Your Help!

As much as I love producing the podcast for all of you, I can’t ignore the significant costs involved. Of course it takes a long time to produce videos on a regular basis. On top of that, there are costs like hosting and equipment.

I don’t get paid to do this podcast and unfortunately I can’t keep it going without your help. This year, 2016, needs to be the best year of the podcast ever! I think it can be #1 around the world and reach many more people if we are all working together.

If each student donated $1 per month (less than a cup of coffee) I could produce many more episodes and give a lot more time to the show. Please consider donating to the show to help spread the English 2.0 message to even more students around the world!

Thank you in advance!
Here’s to a phenomenal 2016!
Peace!
