laptop with study abroad on screen

What should you do to prepare before you study abroad?

On the 18th episode of Your Question, we handle the following question:

Q: How can I prepare for my study abroad?

Here are my thoughts and suggestions:

Instead of focusing on English, focus more on culture and daily life experiences. Learn about customs and the school or program you will be attending. Learn about your local area and try to talk to people from that area before you go. Once you are there, your English will improve very quickly! Don’t worry! Your English is good enough!

YQ17 | Which is better to improve SPEAKING? LISTENING or READING?

Listening or Reading? Which is better to improve Speaking?

Listening or Reading? Which is better to improve Speaking?

On the 17th episode of Your Question, we handle the following question:

Q: Which is better to improve speaking? Listening or reading?

Here are my thoughts and suggestions:

Of course both are important for developing knowledge and fluency in a foreign language. Both reading and listening have advantages and disadvantages. Since listening is related to speaking in terms of their aural qualities, listening can help you with pronunciation, intonation, and pacing. On the other hand, reading can help you build vocabulary and phrases that you can use. If I have to choose only one, which one would I choose? Watch this episode and find out!

YQ15 | Is it Important to Remember Grammar Rules when Speaking?

On the 15th episode of Your Question, we handle the following question:

Q: Is it important to remember grammar rules when it comes to speaking?

Here are my thoughts and suggestions:

First, we need to have a basic level of grammar in order to be understood.
However, if we think too much about grammar while speaking, it can affect our spoken fluency.
There’s a balance between GRAMMAR and FLUENCY for most students.

Suggestions:
1. Don’t worry about grammar when speaking.
2. Learn to think in “function.”
3. Review the “Speaking Skills” series to help you.
