This is the story of how Facebook, the popular social networking site, was founded. “The Social Network” was one of the finalists for Best Picture 2010 at the Academy Awards but ultimately lost to “The King’s Speech.” So does it live up to all the acclaim?

Whether you use Facebook or not, you have probably heard about it or know someone who uses it. You may also know that the guy who is credited with inventing it, Mark Zuckerberg, is now the youngest billionaire on the planet. To me, that alone is a very compelling story. But if you also consider that Zuckerberg possibly stole the idea from other students and cheated his partner and best friend, the true story becomes extremely interesting.
Story: Mark Zuckerberg, a college student at Harvard, has an idea of connecting the students of the school through an online network. Since he is an expert computer programmer and coder, he manages to build the network with the help of some friends, and it soon blows up into something bigger than they ever expected.
“The Social Network” is directed by David Fincher who really knows how to create just the right mood with the music and dingy lighting. The fun parts are fun and the intense parts are intense, and he manages to keep the viewer intrigued throughout the whole movie.
Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Zuckerberg, does a fantastic job of creating a very unique character: a smart, tough, and relentless computer geek. Andrew Garfield plays Eduardo Saverin who is Zuckerberg’s roommate and co-founder of Facebook. He does a great job of portraying the character and the conflict between the two friends.
Of course, like every movie based on a true story, we have to consider what actually happened and what things were added to make the film more interesting on screen. While watching “The Social Network” I never felt like anything was too outrageous while the main story was very interesting and exciting to watch.
Overall, the story, acting, directing, and everything else about this movie was very well done. I highly recommend it if you are in the mood to watch a good, modern-day drama.
